Most people are looking for ways to improve their mental health and be happier. There isn’t one big secret that automatically makes you a happier person – it’s all about simple habits. Sometimes, the advice for being happier seems incredibly simplistic, but these habits do help.
As a self-care and positivity blogger, Ryder Cambron is passionate about helping people find happiness and improve their mental health. One of the best tools you can use to do this is by exercising. Here are some tips for getting started.
- Exercise has been proven to improve our mood because it releases endorphins in our brains. You should aim to do 30 minutes of exercise 3-5 times per week.
- If you are feeling anxious, working out for a little while can help. Cortisol builds up in the body when we experience our fight or flight response. Physical activity is the way that our bodies calm down from that response – otherwise, the cortisol stays there and stresses us out more.
- Make it a goal just to sweat. When trying exercise for the first time, you don’t have to be good at it, as long as you are moving your body and sweating, you are doing great.
- Find an activity that you actually enjoy. If you don’t like running, then you don’t have to. This is a great opportunity to try something new, like a yoga class or lifting weights. You never know what you’ll end up loving!
- Make sure exercise fits into your routine. Perfection is not the goal, but consistency is. If you try to go from 0-100 really fast, you will burn out. Make your routine sustainable.
